Activities Based on "Diary of a Missioner": Prayer Ideas

Prayer:
You can use this article to introduce students to the prayer form called litany. While this one is essentially a prayer of petition for those mentioned in the article, it is recited as a litany. Litanies are ancient prayers, perhaps going back to the 500 A.D. Most litanies start with an invocation of the Trinity.
(Leader) Lord have mercy.
(All) Christ have mercy.
Lord have mercy.
Jesus, our God and our brother,
please hear us.
God our Creator,
please hear us.
Holy Spirit, our inspiration,
please hear us.
Please hear our prayer for those in need of your care.
For little Victor, who needs surgeries,
We pray, o Lord.
For Leonida and her grandfather, who need healthy food,
We pray, o Lord.
For Peter and Gerard who have tuberculosis,
We pray, o Lord.

For Jonathan and Samuel, both hurt in accidents,
We pray, o Lord.
For Purity and Mercy in need of medicines,
We pray, o Lord.
For Theresa, the social worker, who reaches out to those in need,
We pray, o Lord.
For Father John, who brings them hope and help through God's love,
We pray, o Lord.
For the volunteer health workers who bring all these people together,
We pray, o Lord
Jesus, our God and our brother,
God our Creator,
and God the Holy Spirit, we ask you to hear the prayers of all peoples.
Amen.
